2012 - August - Key West to Summerland Key - visit with Isaac

Key West & Summerland Key & Isaac
YIKES!!, EIGHT named storms; Ernesto; Florence; Gordon; Helene; Isaac; Joyce; Kirk; Leslie. The only one we worried about was Isaac & I’ll tell you about that later.

Well, it was ‘Dog Daze’ of summer in Key West meaning, there were coupons galore available for all kinds of activities. Still trying to be tourists, we copied coupons for 2-4-1 dinners at the Pier House & Sunset Key. The food was fabulous at the Pier House, high end - way too high priced for us under normal circumstances, but using the coupon, we enjoyed the best steak we’ve had in a long time. Another night we went to see the Key West Burlesque - great fun.

My friend, Nancy came to town & ‘just the girls’ took the shuttle out to Sunset Key & used our coupons for happy hour & small plate specials.

It was hot with intermittent rain & storms some days. We decided to ‘do’ the Duval Crawl - surprised!  we were greeted by a party! - it was Lobster Fest
but
we didn't know it. Duval was closed off & hundreds of booths provided tons of food, drink & other ‘stuff’.

My new hat bought on Duval - I love it!

We used another coupon &, again, had a wonderful meal at the Pier House then stopped at the Schooner Warf to hear the great music on the way back to the dinghy.
We cruised home & anchored out in Niles Channel on the 13th. Nancy told us about Wetstock, a party at

Picnic island with lots of food, libations, neat people & live music being held on Saturday the 18th. (close to our house & we’ve been many times) Hell…we’ll be there. It was a blast. We anchored there for 3 nights.
We cruised out into the Atlantic to dump the tanks &, of course, I fished - yellow tail for dinner. Thankfully, high tides let us bring BLUE MAX to the house because Isaac was coming - they declared a hurricane warning for the Keys. We had to prepare the boat & the house in a hurry. Mickey &
Kathryn came down on Friday the 24th

so grateful for their help in preparing for the storm. We experienced 45-60 knot wind bands & rain. We were cozy & safe in the
Rain & Wind bands from the North in Niles Channel
cottage. We were still removing lines & putting stuff away till the end of the month.
