2011 - 7/29 - 8/6 con't - Dunmore Town - TS Emily - Bottom Bay

7/29 - 8/6 con’t…We rented a golf cart on Tuesday, 8/2 - what a relief to know we can now go anywhere on the island…and we did. The roads had been dug up to lay pipe for water, however, they didn’t re-pave them. What a wild ride! I don’t remember the last time we’ve gone to a bar or restaurant as often as we did while here-we almost never eat out. Each one was more gorgeous than the next. Many days we’d stop to have a late lunch which meant no dinner that night but on Tuesday, about 7 we had a special dinner at the Harbor House.
The Harbor House Lounge
Afterwards, we stopped at Valentines, a large & very active marina next to the Government docks, took our glass of wine & strolled the docks to check out the boats.
Bahamian sayings
It was a lovely evening. The next few days we went to the Piggly-Wiggly, a liquor store, someone’s house for Bahamian bread, stopped at the
Aquapazza restaurant & bar

Harbor Island marina to see the Haunted House, & Aquapazza &on to the Coral Beach hotel & beach bar. According to the locals, a man had the house built for his wife - she didn't like it, they moved out. Later, the entire inside burned down.

Oh…& we spent a lovely morning at the dentist office. Wayne’s had intermittent pain left lower jaw for a few months now. Finally got the  better of him - an infection in a deep

pocket. Cost $10 for the antibiotics at the clinic - luckily, they had them available. By the way, the clinic has a hospital - 2 separate wards - mens & womans. I was impressed.

Coral Beach Hotel & Beach Bar. Imagine what the hotel looks like if this is just the bar area!

Forgot to mention that we returned to Sip Sip for a drink & I sat right next to Vidal Sassoon & didn’t know it. Later, Wayne, who was facing him at the table said, “sure I knew who he was-my mom was a hairdresser”…what? & you didn’t tell me ??!!

Remnants of EMILY
We’ve been closely watching Tropical Storm Emily since 8/2. All predictions show she’s headed for the Bahamas - all of the Bahamas - by Thursday/Friday. The marina gave us notice that we have to leave on Thursday, 8/4 -Valentines followed suit. A few boats anchored out in front of the marinas, several went to Harbor Island marina where they were happy for the income. But by Wednesday night, Emily was disintegrating & no longer a named storm. But word was there was a 60% chance that Emily may re-form. We stayed an extra day at the marina. Friday, 8/5 we returned the cart & left the marina to anchor out in Harbor Bottom, which is the southern-most part of the harbor. It seemed good protection from east, west & south winds. We were right & little to no wave action either. As soon as the anchor was secured, the rain started and continued through the night & into the next day along with steady winds & gusts up to 30 knots. The wind generator was working overtime putting out about 20 amps! The rain subsided by Saturday morning but the wind continued to blow hard then clocked to the south then west & by late afternoon, subsided. It was a lovely sunset.
I made up a drink - Wayne named it ‘Bottom Bay Punch’; blend fresh mango, banana, some OJ (or any fruit drink), Rum of course, when thick, shake it with ice - YUM! You know you must constantly taste it as you blend it until it’s just right. I’m still trying for perfection...I'll add coconut next time.
